What is Life Insurance?

Through ING, EPISD provides you the option to protect your family’s financial future.  Life insurance provides basic protection for your loved ones if something happens to you. The loss of your income could create immediate financial hardship and lifestyle changes for your family. Life insurance will help!

What does EPISD offer you as an employee?

Basic Group Term Life Coverage (Employer Paid)
All benefit eligible employees are provided with a Basic Life Insurance Policy; with coverage in the amount of $10,000 and $10,000 for Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D).  All full- time active employees who participate in the Hospital Indemnity Plan will receive an additional $25,000. (Please visit the medical plan link for more information on the Hospital Indemnity Plan)

Additional Supplemental Life and AD&D Insurance (100% Employee Paid)
During your initial eligible enrollment period, you may select additional life coverage for 1.5, 2, or 3 times your
salary and Dependent Life Insurance without Evidence of Insurability (EOI).  If the maximum amount is not selected during the initial enrollment period, you may be subject to the EOI in the future should you choose to upgrade your coverage to more than one level per year.

Dependent Life Insurance
If you choose life insurance coverage for yourself, you may also purchase life insurance for your dependents (eligible spouse and dependent children up to age 25). 

Spouse & Dependent Children (each dependent child) $2,000 $ .75/month
Children age 14 days but less than 6 months are eligible for $1,000  
Eligible Spouse-You have five additional options $12,000 $3.00/month
  $14,000 $3.50/month
  $16,000 $4.00/month
  $18,000 $4.50/month
  $20,000 $5.00/month

If you do not elect Supplemental life insurance coverage for yourself, you may only elect the level 1coverage of $2,000 for dependents.  If both husband and wife are employed by EPISD, Dependent Life Insurance cannot be purchased for each other.  In addition, when both husband and wife are employed by EPISD, only one employee can purchase Dependent Life Insurance on eligible children. 

**Coverage amounts are reduced as follows**

  • From your 70th birthday to age 75, pays 65%
  • From your 75th birthday to age 80, pays 45%
  • From your 80th birthday and after, pays 30%
