SPECIAL MESSAGE from Dr. Lorenzo Garcia, Superintendent regarding the Proposed Medical Plan Design
The El Paso Independent School District is providing you with another update as we work diligently to create a budget that includes a pay increase and addresses healthcare.
Currently in the budget, we have $10 million for pay increases. We are relieved that we have been able to secure this amount of money for a pay increase that will offset inflationary issues that every household is experiencing.
We are happy to announce that we are recommending to add $2.7 million more to our healthcare fund in addition to the $3 million that will be allocated. This provides for a total of $5.7 million increase from the District to our healthcare fund.
Administration provided an update to the Board of Trustees and everyone feels we are moving in the right direction. We are still not satisfied and will continue to review our budget to seek additional funding.
The Board of Trustees has agreed to meet again to review compensation and we will provide another update on our healthcare.
All school districts and businesses regionally and nationally continue to experience escalating costs for healthcare. Our goal is to continue to work diligently on a solution to keep healthcare costs manageable by providing choices for you and your family.

Coverage you need, coverage you can afford
Are you an employee working 20 to 29 hours? If the answer is yes, and you are not covered under the EPISD Health Care Trust Medical Plan, you will automatically be enrolled for coverage effective May 1, 2008. Premiums are paid at 100% by EPISD for employee only coverage.
Effective October 1, 2008
Limited Benefits Insurance Plan will also be available for Substitutes and Temporary Employees You must be an active employee in order to be eligible. Open enrollment is from August 18th through September 17th. Premiums for this plan are paid at 100% by the employee. Find out if this coverage is right for you.
